The Alive Workshop is 3-days long and builds on itself. It is generally Friday and Saturday from 12:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m. and Sunday from 11:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m.
The training builds upon itself. It's very important that you are there for the entire weekend. Please do everything you can to attend all 3 days. If you have questions or concerns about this, please contact us.
Basically, this means that you will NOT sit in a chair and listen to a boring-ass man drive you to tears with long-winded speeches. Yes, there will be some explanations and instructions, but we try to make those as short as possible. After that, you’ll be asked to participate in different activities. These may include closed-eye meditations, discussing something with your buddy, small group interactions, and even some physical movements. In addition, there are breaks spread throughout the day and you will get to go on a meal break with your small group!
The rainbow community is anyone who does not self-identify as a CIS, straight person. Gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, non-binary, polyamorous, and anyone else is welcome. We also welcome straight, CIS individuals as long as you are aware that there may be exercises that may not pertain to you as much.
Dictionary.com defines emotional intelligence as, "the capacity to be aware of, control, and express one's emotions, and to handle interpersonal relationships judiciously and empathetically."
In other words, it's about the ability to shift your interpretation of what is occurring in your life so that you can move forward in an empowering and dynamic vision!
Some of the benefits are:
The workshop is a highly participative workshop designed to deal with issues that affect the LGBTQ+ community in an open and honest way. Multiple formats will be used including teachings, interactive discussions, one-on-one sharing, small group sharing, closed eye processes, games and even coloring. There will be small groups where much of the work will be done and each small group has a coach who will shepherd you through the process during the weekend.
Maybe. Here’s the deal. We want you to come AND we want you to be safe. Your safety is our number one priority. Therefore, our basic premise is that if we cause you to enter an unsafe situation (i.e. trigger you to a self-harming situation), we really want you to stay home and stay safe. What we ask is that if you are currently being treated or have been treated in the last 6 months for mental illness (either therapy or drug), that you discuss the workshop with your medical provider (either counselor or physician)
If you have been hospitalized or tried to commit suicide in the last 6 months, we ask that you wait for the next training to participate.
Dress in comfortable clothes that allow you to move around. We also recommend that you dress in layers as the room may be cooler or warmer than you’d like (we don’t control the temperature of the room).
The workshop is approximately 10 hours long each day. We will have multiple short breaks each day and one long meal break. We strongly recommend that you bring snacks and a water bottle with you. During the long break, you will be going out with your small group to a local restaurant (approximately $10-15).
Water is the only drink allowed in the training room and you must have a lid on your water bottle. Also, no gum is allowed on-site.
Yes. However, please be aware that the training is specifically designed for those who are LGBTQ+.
We are committed to doing everything possible to accommodate as many people as we can. Please contact us (614-FUTURE1) and we’ll do whatever we can to make sure that you’re included.
